Our Commitment to a Sustainable Future

At Emerald & Wax, sustainability is not a trend — it is the foundation upon which every piece is built. Rooted in the craft traditions of Ireland and guided by a deep respect for the natural world, we are on a deliberate journey toward a zero-waste philosophy. This means rethinking every stage of our process, from the first sketch to the final stitch.

Made to Order, Made with Purpose

We do not produce speculatively. Every garment and accessory is made only when it is ordered, which means nothing sits unsold in a warehouse and nothing is discarded at the end of a season. This made-to-order model is one of the most powerful tools we have against overproduction — the single largest driver of waste in the fashion industry. When you place an order with us, you are commissioning a piece made specifically for you.

Zero-Waste Fabric Practices

Fabric offcuts and remnants from our production process are never thrown away. We repurpose leftover materials into new pieces — smaller accessories, trims, and experimental designs — ensuring that every centimetre of cloth is treated as the valuable resource it is. We are continuously refining our pattern-cutting techniques to reduce offcuts at the source, working toward a production process where waste is designed out entirely.

Handcrafted in Ireland

Each piece in our collection is handmade by skilled machinists based here in Ireland. Handcraft is inherently more sustainable than mass production: it is slower, more precise, and produces far less waste. It also means that the people making your clothes are paid fairly, work in safe conditions, and take genuine pride in what they create. When you wear Emerald & Wax, you are wearing the work of real hands.

Ethical and Considered Sourcing

We source our fabrics and materials with care, prioritising suppliers who share our values around environmental responsibility and fair labour. We favour natural fibres, low-impact dyes, and materials with transparent supply chains. As our business grows, we are deepening these supplier relationships and increasing the traceability of every material we use.

Reducing, Reusing, Rethinking

Sustainability at Emerald & Wax goes beyond fabric. We use minimal, recyclable packaging. We avoid single-use plastics across our operations. We are constantly auditing our processes — from energy use in our studio to the carbon footprint of our deliveries — and looking for ways to do better. We do not claim to be perfect, but we are committed to continuous improvement and honest transparency about where we are on this journey.

A Living Commitment

We believe that the most sustainable garment is one that is loved, worn often, and kept for years. We design with longevity in mind — pieces that transcend seasons, that age beautifully, and that tell a story. Our goal is not just to reduce harm, but to create something genuinely worth keeping.

If you have questions about our materials, our makers, or our practices, we would love to hear from you.
